Forsyth County Sheriff's Office warns of fake bonding scams

By AccessWDUN Staff

The Forsyth County Sheriff's Office warns residents of fake bonding companies that have allegedly scammed people out of thousands of dollars.

In a Facebook post, the sheriff's office said the scammers call residents to begin the process of getting their loved ones out of jail.

Hang up immediately, these are not Forsyth Jail-approved bonding companies. Approved companies can be found on the sheriff’s office website

“One of the biggest scams today is callers claiming to be from a bonding company, wanting to help get your friend or loved one out of jail. They pressure you with emotions and urgency, expecting to receive a deposit to get the process started,” the post said.

Once the payment is sent, the scammer will instruct the person to meet them at the jail, but they will never show up. The person will later realize their loved one or friend was never in jail, the sheriff's office said.
