Pedestrian killed in Sunday Gainesville hit-and-run

A Gainesville man was killed in a hit-and-run crash in the city Sunday evening, and police are searching for a suspect.

According to a press release from the Gainesville Police Department, Omer Herman Morris, 37, was hit by a vehicle in the incident just before 8:30 p.m. Sunday evening in the area of Spring Road and McEver Road.

Morris was transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center Gainesville, but he later died from his injuries.

The agency said preliminary information indicated Morris was walking along the roadway when he was struck by a dark-colored sport-utility vehicle towing a trailer. The vehicle fled the scene after the crash and was last seen on McEver Road heading toward Dawsonville Highway.
