No injuries were reported after a fire Tuesday evening at a chicken house in Banks County.

According to a press release from Banks County Fire Chief Steve Nichols, units responded at about 7 p.m. to the fire off Emory Chambers Road in Lula.

Crews found the chicken house fully involved with fire when they arrived. Crews were able to prevent the flames from spreading to a nearby home.

The chicken house was in operation at the time of the fire and did have chickens in it. Nearly 20,000 chickens perished in the blaze, according to Nichols.

The structure was declared a total loss.

The cause of the fire is listed as accidental but remained under investigation as of Wednesday morning.

An update was made on Sept. 27 at 4:31 p.m. to clarify the number of chickens lost in the fire.
