WALNUT GROVE, Ga. — Buford scored six runs over the final two innings to pull away for an 8-0 win over Walnut Grove on Monday.

The Class 7A top-ranked Lady Wolves (17-0) led just 2-0 after a pair runs in the second on a Summer Castorri homer and a Kylie Gower RBI sacrifice bunt.

That was all Caroline Stanton needed. Stanton tossed a one-hitter and fanned 16 while walking two to get the win.

Buford scored three in the sixth and then blew it open with three more in the top of the seventh on home runs by Madison Pickens and Adriana Martinez.

Becca Schad took the loss for Walnut Grove going six innings, surrendering five runs on six hits and three walks and struck out three.

Martinez led Buford Wolves with three hits. Castorri had two hits and two RBI for the Lady Wolves.

Buford will be back in action on Tuesday at home against Central Gwinnett in a Region 8-7A matchup.

NORTH OCONEE 10,
JEFFERSON 2 (6 inn)

In a non-region battle of ranked teams, the Class 5A No. 2 Lady Dragons could not hold the Class 4A No. 5 Lady Titans in a six-inning loss on the road.

Jefferson (12-4) never led as North Oconee (16-4) scored twice in the bottom of the first to take a quick lead. The Lady dragons cut the lead to 2-1 in the second on a Natalie Beck RBI single but the Lady Titans added two more in the fourth.

The Lady Dragons trimmed the lead to 4-2 in the fourth on a Beck RBI groundout but North Oconee put the game away with six runs in the sixth to invoke the mercy rule.

Addison Self took the loss for Jefferson allowing 10 runs, just three earned, on seven hits over 5 2/3 innings. She struck out five but walked six as well.
