A Flowery Branch Police Officer and a juvenile driver both suffered minor injuries after a two-vehicle wreck Monday afternoon on Atlanta Highway.

According to a press release from the Georgia State Patrol, the wreck happened at about 5:30 p.m. near Vireo Drive.

Flowery Branch Police Officer Kenneth Nix, 58, was in a marked Dodge Charger patrol vehicle with lights and sirens activated driving north on Atlanta Highway. Nix was in a no-passing zone while responding to a hit-and-run call.

Nix came upon a Honda Pilot which was also driving northbound on Atlanta Highway. A 17-year-old male from Buford was driving that vehicle.

As Nix steered into the southbound lane to pass the Pilot, the teen turned left across the southbound lane toward the private drive of an auto repair business.

Nix's charger struck the Pilot on its driver's side and both vehicles traveled off the road and went into a ditch. The Pilot overturned onto its top in the ditch.

The GSP said both drivers suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
