A Gainesville man was arrested Monday after he allegedly attempted to commit an armed robbery early that morning at a location on Atlanta Highway in Hall County.

According to a press release from the Hall County Sheriff's Office, deputies were dispatched at about 2 a.m. to the location in the 1800 block of Atlanta Highway where they found two men holding down a suspect, later identified as Saqueo Hernandez-Cota, 23, of Gainesville.

The male victim in the incident told deputies he was sitting in his vehicle outside of a coin laundromat when Hernandez-Cota approached him, pulled out a box cutter and demanded his property.

The victim said he turned over his wallet and cell phone, but the suspect then brandished a machete and tried to enter the victim's vehicle. The victim said he exited his vehicle from the passenger side to escape and call for help.

Hernandez-Cota followed the victim but fell down as he was chasing him. The victim and another man held down the suspect until deputies arrived.

Deputies recovered the box cutter and machete from the scene.

Hernandez-Cota was injured while he was being held by the victim and the other man.

He was taken to the hospital for treatment before being transported to the jail. He is being held in medical quarters at the jail as of Tuesday morning.

Hall County Sheriff's Office property crimes investigators are continuing to investigate the incident.
