Warrants have been obtained for Mark Aaron Curry, 32, of Gainesville, who was the man involved in a domestic altercation at the Hollywood Cinemas in Gainesville Tuesday afternoon.

Reports indicated Curry was involved in a domestic incident with a 31-year-old woman in the parking lot. During the altercation, the woman was able to obtain a knife and stabbed Curry in the abdomen in what officials are saying was self-defense.

"It's believed that Curry was physically assaulting her, to the extent of her almost losing consciousness during the assault, he did strangle her," Gainesville Police Lieutenant Kevin Holbrook said. "She was transported to the hospital as well to seek treatment."

Curry has been charged with aggravated assault, officials said Wednesday. He is still hospitalized as of the last report.

The woman has reportedly been released from the hospital, and the investigation is still ongoing.

The reported altercation took place at approximately 3 p.m. Tuesday between a man and a woman in the Hollywood Cinemas parking lot in Gainesville.

During the domestic altercation, the woman produced a knife and stabbed the man, according to Gainesville Police Lieutenant Kevin Holbrook. At that time, the man got into a vehicle and drove away. Officers found him in the 600 block of Shallowford Road soon after.

The man reportedly received life-threatening injuries and was transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center. The woman was also taken to the hospital for injuries she received during the altercation, officials said Tuesday.

"Although the preliminary investigation does appear that the female subject utilized the knife in an attempt to protect herself, investigators are working with witnesses as well as surrounding businesses, to obtain surveillance video," Holbrook said.

The investigation is ongoing and no charges have been filed as of the last report.
