Pair of agri-entertainment venues put to decision by Hall County Planning Commission

By Christian Ashliman Anchor/Reporter

Two prospective South Hall agricultural entertainment venues Monday night were put to motion by the Hall County Planning Commission, with one receiving approval and the other being denied.

Seasonal venue on Lanier Islands Parkway gets a green light

The first of the two venues is located at 5351 Lanier Islands Parkway in South Hall. The 17.14-acre plot of land is currently zoned as Agricultural Residential. The applicants, Keith D. and Chad Bell according to city documents, are hoping to obtain a permit subject to commission approval for the venue.

That venue aims to include a three-acre corn maze, pumpkin patch, wagon rides and a walk-through Christmas light tour. Additionally, other activities may include a ground-level jumping pillow, a playground, a corn pit, antique tractors for pictures, a picnic area and tours of the property.

The proposed venue on Lanier Islands Parkway would reportedly operate from September through the end of the year.

Hall County Planning Staff recommended denial of the venue prior to Monday’s meeting, citing inconsistency with the future land use of the area.

However, the Planning Commission put forward a unanimous approval recommendation. The final vote will be cast by the Hall County Board of Commissioners on Sept. 14 at 6 p.m.

Wedding venue in South Hall asks for too much

The second venue is proposed for another area in South Hall located at 3555 North Bogan Road. That 7.03-acre plot is also zoned as Agricultural Residential. The applicant, John A. Moore, Sr., seeks a permit subject to commission approval as well as two variances for an outdoor venue that would primarily be used for weddings on weekends.

Moore also hopes to allow the venue to be used for community events on weekdays, should the need arise.

The two variances requested by the applicant include substantial property setback adjustments for the primary structure and the parking lot. Due to Moore’s variance request, which would have seen the property setbacks lessened by over 90%, the commission elected to deny the request.

Hall County Planning Staff also recommended denial of the conditional use permit and both variances due to inconsistencies with the Residential Future Land Use Designation.

The Planning Commission’s denial recommendation will now be forwarded to the Hall County Board of Commissioners, who will cast a final vote on Aug. 24 at 6 p.m.
