One man was killed and another man suffered serious injuries after a head-on wreck Monday morning on Interstate 85 in Hart County.

According to a press release from the Georgia State Patrol, the wreck happened at about 4 a.m. on I-85 northbound near Mile Marker 178 past Lavonia.

The agency says a Jeep Cherokee was driving in the wrong direction in the left northbound lane of the roadway. Meanwhile, a tractor-trailer was traveling northbound on I-85 in the left lane and a tanker truck was traveling northbound on the roadway in the right lane.

The front of the Jeep struck the front of the tractor-trailer, causing the Jeep to become engulfed in flames. Debris from the impact hit the tanker truck.

The Jeep traveled across the northbound right lane of I-85 and struck a guardrail, ejecting the driver. The tractor-trailer traveled off the rest shoulder and into a grass median.

The driver of the Jeep, identified by GSP as Devin James Eastman, 41, of Naples, Florida, was pronounced dead at the scene. GSP said impairment was suspected. No charges will be filed.

The driver of the tractor-trailer, Jonathan Max Cranfill, 47, of Mansfield, Georgia, suffered serious injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital.
