Former WDUN reporter brought on as Hall County Public Information Officer

By Christian Ashliman Anchor/Reporter

Former WDUN multimedia journalist Joy Holmes was brought on earlier this month as the new Hall County Government Public Information Officer.

Holmes has filled the vacancy left by the previous public information officer Sarah Crowe, who was promoted on May 1 to the Communications and Strategic Engagement Manager position. Holmes’ role as PIO became effective June 5.

“Joy brings a wealth of institutional knowledge into this role given her previous experience as a reporter and public relations professional,” Crowe said. “We’re excited for the many great things we know she’ll do for the citizens of Hall County.”

Holmes will be responsible for sharing government information and services with the public, as well as keeping citizens informed about upcoming programs and events.

Holmes is a graduate of the University of North Georgia, holding a degree in Communications and Broadcast Journalism. Her most recent role was with WDUN News in Gainesville, owned by Jacobs Media. She was a news reporter and radio anchor for WDUN, with an emphasis on multimedia journalism.

Prior to her time with WDUN, Holmes held a position in communications for the Jefferson City School District and has extensive experience in project management.

“I am excited to be a part of such a great team and community at Hall County Government,” Holmes said. “I look forward to applying my skills in ways that help share Hall County’s story and working more in-depth with the community, which I have truly grown to love.”

Holmes currently lives in Gainesville with her husband, Caleb, and their two Australian Shepards. She has been a Hall County resident since 2019.

"I want to be the person that the community can come to when they have a question," Holmes said. "I want them to feel like I'm approachable. I want them to be able to ask me questions, come to me with any concerns, anything that is regarding county government, and even if it's not involving county government, anything to do with Hall County in general. I want them to know that I am always here. My door is always open."

Holmes noted to keep an eye out for an upcoming event surrounding the new Highlands to Islands Trail in the future.
