Two people were arrested Thursday on drug charges in Towns County, including a store clerk at Streak Hill Store, following complaints from the community.

According to a social media post from the Towns County Sheriff's Office, the two suspects were arrested after a two-week investigation.

Brian William Whitney, 42, of Hiawassee, the store clerk, was arrested during a search of his camper behind the store. The agency said they located alleged methamphetamine in the camper as well as in Whitney's possession.

Whitney was charged with felony possession of methamphetamine and felony possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute.

During that same search, authorities found a second man who was wanted for an active warrant in the county. James Marlin Bailey, 41, of Young Harris, was also found in possession of methamphetamine. Bailey was charged with felony possession of methamphetamine and failure to appear.

"Towns County Sheriff Ken Henderson stated that Citizens and Law Enforcement working together can have a huge impact on the drug activity that is plaguing our community and is pleased that Citizens are passing along information to combat this activity," the social media post said.
