Lightning strike triggers structure fire in White County

By Steve Winslow Anchor/Reporter
The peak of recent storms in White County is considered the cause for a structure fire which destroyed a home this week.

A release from White County's Public Information Officer Bryce Barrett says White County Fire Services responded shortly before 4:00 p.m. on June 15 to a residential fire in Sautee Nacoochee’s Skylake community.

Helen Fire Department also responded. Within minutes, White County personnel was on scene of a fully involved structure fire.

Fire personnel received confirmation that the structure was no longer occupied, begin combating the blaze and prevented it from spreading to nearby vegetation.

Several other nearby communities also assisted in containing the damage.

The residence was deemed a total loss and the cause of the fire is a reported lightning strike.
