Three Oakwood Police Officers were honored at the Oakwood City Council meeting Monday evening for their efforts in saving a child in May from a known human trafficker.

According to a social media post from the Oakwood Police Department, Officer Samuel Allen, Officer Yaneth Torres and Sergeant Chris Campbell all received the department's Meritorious Service Award.

The awards related to an incident from May 13, in which Oakwood Police responded to a call of a reported runaway teen. The 14-year-old's family told police the girl had been gone for several hours and they did not know where she was.

It was eventually discovered the girl was possibly staying in a hotel in College Park with an unknown subject.

The College Park Police Department was then notified to check the hotel, where they found the teen in the hotel with a man from California. The man was then connected to a history of human trafficking. The teen was recovered and returned to her parents and the man was arrested.

"We are proud of all three of these officers and their efforts, which likely resulted in saving the life of the child," the social media post said.
