Riverside Prep's Civil Air Patrol squadron chartered

By Caleb Hutchins Assistant News Director

The recently founded Civil Air Patrol squadron at Riverside Preparatory Academy in Gainesville was officially chartered earlier this month.

In a release, school officials said the program was founded with the help of 1966 Riverside graduate Ron Fenner and was first offered to cadets in August of 2022. Georgia Wing Commander Lt. Col. Robert Powers said it's an exciting move for the school and the CAP.

"The Georgia Wing is very proud to have the Riverside cadets as a part of the organization," Lt. Col. Powers said. "They’ll enrich not only the lives of the other cadets at Riverside but also of the other cadets involved in the Georgia Wing."

During a chartering ceremony on May 3, Riverside President Col. Stanley “Staƛ”Preczewski also announced the school's CAP classroom is being named the "Ronslow P. Fenner Civil Air Patrol Classroom" in honor of Fenner's contributions to the program.

"As President, I receive many suggestions and potential program ideas, but much to his credit, Ron doesn’t simply make a suggestion in passing," Col. Preczewski said. "He does the legwork, pulls together a task force, and gathers all the information and data before bringing it to me."

Riverside's squadron is the 41st CAP squadron in the state of Georgia. The release said the Civil Air Patrol aims to “mobilize the nation's civilian aviation resources for national defense service."
