Six arrested after two shootings in two days in Commerce

By Caleb Hutchins Assistant News Director

Six people have been arrested after two shootings in as many days in Commerce earlier this week.

Commerce Police Dective Sgt. Adam King said the first incident happened Sunday when officers were called to the Heritage Crossing apartments on the city's north side to reports of a disturbance. When they arrived, several witnesses said they saw an altercation between two groups that ended when a person from one group fired a gun and drove away.

Witnesses described the vehicle as a white Ford Fusion and officers reportedly later found it near the intersection of Cedar Drive and Pine Avenue. Three people, Landun Brock, Vivica Brown and Torryn Rakestraw, were arrested at that scene.

"Nobody was injured. Several people were in the parking lot when the shots were fired and they took cover, but nobody was injured fortunately," King said.

The second incident happened Monday. King said officers were called to the scene by two people who were suffering from gunshot wounds in Nicholson. The victims had reportedly driven there after being shot at the basketball courts on Ridgeway Drive in Commerce.

"They claimed that they were approached by males with guns and were asked to give them their phones and their wallets," King said. "They attempted to drive off after giving them some of these items and they were actually shot at. The vehicle has several bullet holes."

The victims were taken to a nearby hospital and treated for what King called minor injuries. He said three people have been arrested in connection with that case, but authorities are still looking for a fourth suspect.

Both cases are still under investigation. King said the two incidents are not believed to be connected.
