Man arrested after both parents found dead in South Hall

By AccessWDUN Staff

A man was arrested Friday evening for allegedly murdering his parents in Flowery Branch, according to Hall County Sheriff's Office officials.

Daniel Edward Rawlins, 39, was charged with two counts of malice murder in the deaths of Leanette Rawlins, 66, and William Rawlins, 67, at their home on the 5000 block of Union Church Road.

Hall County Sheriff's Office Spokesman Derreck Booth said deputies responded to the home around 4:30 pm Friday after a family member found William Rawlins unresponsive in the yard.

"Deputies then located Leanette Rawlins, who was also unresponsive. She was on the porch of the house," Booth said. "Deputies searched the house and a barn apartment on the property for safety reasons. Daniel Rawlins actually lives in the barn apartment on the property, but he was not there when authorities began the investigation."

The investigation, which included the use of Flock cameras, provided information that indicated the car Daniel Rawlins was driving was near Interstate 85 and Ga. 211 in Braselton. The search then led deputies to the Holiday Inn Express & Suites in that area.

Deputies and officers evacuated the hotel and arrested Daniel Rawlins without incident in a hotel room just before 7:00 pm.

"The victims bodies have been sent to the GBI Crime Lab for autopsy at this point and suspected causes of death we're not releasing at this time," Booth said. "All we can factually say at this point was that (the deaths) were within a 24 hour period of when our deputies responded."

The Braselton Police Department, Barrow County Sheriff's Office and Georgia State Patrol assisted with efforts at the hotel. Booth said no other suspects are being sought in connection with the deaths at this time.
