Officials stop sewer spill into unnamed tributary to Lake Lanier

By AccessWDUN Staff

The Gainesville Department of Water Resources stopped a sewer overflow Saturday into an unnamed tributary that flows into Lake Lanier.

According to a press release from the City of Gainesville, about 2,000 gallons spilled into the tributary off Lakeshore Circle.

The city received a call at about 9:40 a.m. Saturday about an overflowing manhole near 1224 Lakeshore Circle. City staff determined a sewer choke was the cause of the discharge. The correction was made and flow was restored by about 12:40 p.m.

The area of the spill was assessed and no dead or stressed aquatic life were found.

"Straw and lime were spread over the affected ground area to control odor," the release reads. "All stream conditions have returned to
normal."
