Baseball scoreboard: East Forsyth sweeps Walnut Grove; Lumpkin splits with Wesleyan; Dawson Co beats White.; LCA wins; Jefferson falls

GAINESVILLE, Ga. — East Forsyth run-ruled Walnut Grove 16-1 to complete the sweep on Tuesday and advance to the Class 4A state playoffs.

Game 1 wasn't as easy for the Broncos (17-11, 12-6 Region 8-4A), who needed a Trey Farr walk-off RBI to lift them to the 5-4 win at home.  

In Game 2, the Broncos drove in 16 runs on 11 hits to force the three-inning run rule against Seckinger (15-13, 11-7 Region 8-4A). A 10-run first inning that saw EaFo bat around included five walks and six hits and paced the Broncos' offense. 

Lucas Kniola was 2-for-2 with four RBIs to lead the Broncos. Mathew Lyons, Mason Schreiber, and Joseph Gurr had two hits each. Schreiber drove in three runs, and Mathew Lyons and Owen McGee drove in two. 

In Game 1, Farr ripped a 1-1 count single to centerfield, scoring Owen McGee for the winning game run in Game 1. 

Before the final inning, the two region foes traded runs in the third inning for a 3-3 game. 

Hewett Jones's double started the scoring for the Warriors, and during the next at-bat, Thomas Burke and Jones both scored on an EaFo error to take a 3-0 lead. 

The Broncos added runs on a wild pitch, a Will Moffit single, and a Mathew Lyons sacrifice fly to tie the game, 3-3, in the bottom of the third. 

Logan Pedretti gave the Broncos the lead in the fifth inning on a single, but Grove answered in the sixth, scoring a run on a Ty Trinkle double to right field. 

McGee and Chance Hall recorded two hits on the day to lead the Broncos' offense. Jones and Alec Clayton collected two hits on the day for the Warriors. 

Jackson Weir won 3 1/3 innings of work, allowing one hit while striking out two. 


LUMPKIN COUNTY 20, 2,
WESLEYAN 14, 7

Lumpkin County has one more shot to clinch a home playoff series in next week's Class 3A state tournament.

The Indians fell to Wesleyan in Game 2 of the doubleheader in Norcross 7-2 to set up a showdown in Dahlonega for the No. 2 seed on Thursday. 

After scoring 20 runs in Game 1, the Indians' offense was stone cold in Game 2, but they held on to a 2-0 lead after the third inning. That's when things when south.

Wesleyan hacked out three runs in the fourth and four in the fifth to take a 7-2 lead and hold on for the win.

Dominick Scalese and Forrest Leitz both homered to spark the Wolves' rally.

The Indians had just three hits in Game 2, Harper Davenport, Mason Hester and Tyler Boggs had one hit each. Davenport drove in both of the Indians' runs.

In Game 1, Alejandro Narvaez was on fire in the Indians' win on the road at Wesleyan on Tuesday. 

Narvaez was 5-for-6 with four RBIs to lead the Indians in the key win over the Wolves. The win lifts Lumpkin County (20-8, 11-6 Region 7-3A) into a tie for the No. 2 spot in the Region 7-3A standings with Wesleyan (15-9, 12-5 Region 7-3A). If they get the Game 2 win, they'll take the No. 2 seed in next week's Class 3A tournament. 

On Tuesday, the Indians' bats were hotter than the Wolves. Harper Davenport had a solid day at the plate, going 3-for-5 with two RBIs. 

Dakota Bennett crushed a three-run homer in the fifth, as did Cooper Scott. Scott's was a two-run shot. The long balls were part of a nine-run fifth inning that gave the Indians an 11-7 lead. 

Lumpkin County continued its offensive onslaught in the fifth inning, adding seven more runs, but the Wolves answered with five in the bottom. 


DAWSON COUNTY 6,
WHITE COUNTY 5

Sawyer Bearden's sacrifice fly drove in Chase Adams for the go-ahead run in the top of the ninth inning as Dawson County held on to beat White County 6-5 in Cleveland on Tuesday. 

The win clinches the No. 4 seed for the Tigers (14-13, 9-7 Region 7-3A) in next week's Class 3A tournament. 

The Tigers scattered four runs across the first three innings to take a 4-0 lead, but the Warriors (11-15, 6-10 Region 7-3A) hammered out five runs in the fourth to take the lead, 5-4. 

In the fourth, Dawson County walked three batters, committed one error, and gave up three hits, including RBI singles from Nate Bray and Trevor Butler, a two-RBI double from Mark Daniels, and an RBI sac fly from Landon Roberts. 

Dawson County tied the game in the sixth inning off a Colton Rucker fielder's choice that scored Julian Horner. 


LOGANVILLE 6,
JEFFERSON 1

Jefferson (18-8, 7-4 Region 8-5A) struck first, but Loganville answered fast in the win at home on Tuesday. 

The Red Devils answered Jefferson's one run with four in the second inning to take a 4-1 lead en route to the Region 8-5A win. 

Nolan Keener and Tucker Segars were 2-for-3 to lead the Red Devils (22-7, 12-0 Region 8-5A) at the plate. Jaylen Jones drove in two runs on a 1-for-4 day. 

Bowman Horn and Aiden Mixon had one hit each. 

The pitching duo of Jordan Davis and Segars allowed just one run on two hits while striking out a combined eight batters. Davis got the win for the Red Devils. 

LANIER CHRISTIAN 6,
WESTMINSTER CHRISTIAN 3
 
Lanier Christian scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning to take a 3-1 lead and never looked back in the win against Westminster on Tuesday at home.

Westminster did close the gap to 3-2 in the second inning, but the Lightning responded with two runs in the third to push the lead to 5-2.

Westminster scored again in the fourth, cutting the lead to 5-3, but LCA answered with an insurance run in the fifth to close out the scoring for the game.

Tres Criste picked up the win on the hill for LCA, striking out seven while giving up only two hits. Carter Raulerson shut down Westminster for the save, allowing no hits while striking out three.

The Lightning offense was led by Gavin Strabala, who had two hits, including a three-run home run in the first. Criste had a hit and scored two runs, while Raulerson, Isaac Dinn, Barry Waymack, Joshua Waymack and Drew Kalinauskas added a hit each.
