White County Public Safety Agencies partner with high school for mock crash

By Sydney Hencil Anchor/Reporter
With prom season quickly approaching, White County Public Safety partnered with White County High School and other Public Safety Agencies Wednesday to present a mock car crash scene for students.

The mock exercise was a chance for students to see the effects of distracted driving or driving under the influence.  It involved a head-on collision resulting in many critical patients and a fatality, according to a press release from White County government officials.

Fire personnel performed extrication and EMS staff performed initial assessment and treatment of the patients creating an opportunity for students to see local first responders in action.

The exercise was important for students to see because it makes them aware of the consequences of distracted driving or driving under the influence, Battalion Chief for White County Fire Service Josh Taylor said.

The mock exercise was as close to “real” as possible while upholding safety as the number one priority.  After the simulated accident, patients were transported to the hospital, one via AirLife.  Members of the White County Fire Service shared stories of similar situations that happened in the County.
