AAA: Georgia gas prices drop 4 cents on average

By Austin Eller News Director

Georgia gas prices were down four cents Monday morning compared to the week prior, according to the weekly fuel price report from AAA.

The statewide average was $3.22 per gallon for regular gasoline as of Monday morning. That average was the same as one month prior and 96 cents lower than one year prior.

It now costs $48.30 to fill a 15-gallon tank of regular gasoline.

“Georgians felt some relief at the pumps this weekend,” said Montrae Waiters, AAA spokeswoman. “Slow demand and the price of crude oil plunging into the low to mid $60 per barrel, a level not seen since August 2021, contributed to the decrease in gas prices.”

Habersham County had the cheapest gas prices in the northeast Georgia region with an average of $3.10 per gallon for regular gas. Franklin County had the most expensive gas prices in the region at an average of $3.25 per gallon.

The national average for a gallon of regular gas also dropped compared to the prior week. AAA said the national average is down 3 cents to $3.44.

"According to data from the Energy Information Administration, gas demand increased slightly from 8.56 million to 8.59 million barrels a day last week," a release from AAA said. "Meanwhile, total domestic gasoline stocks decreased by 2.1 million barrels to 236 million barrels. Typically, increased demand amid tighter supply would push pump prices higher; however, lower oil prices have countered this effect. If crude oil prices keep falling, drivers could see pump prices continue to decline."
