Gas prices decline in Georgia for fourth straight week

By Caleb Hutchins Assistant News Director

Gas prices are declining across the country, and it's happening in Georgia as well.

According to Monday morning's report from AAA, the average price for a gallon of regular in the state is now $3.15. That's down six cents from last week and it represents four straight weeks of declining prices at the pump in Georgia.

As has been the case during this period of declining prices, Northeast Georgia continues to see prices lower than the state average. Hall, Forsyth and Dawson counties are all seeing averages of $3.02 per gallon while Jackson County has the cheapest prices in the region at average of $3.01.

AAA Spokeswoman Montrae Waiters again pointed to crude oil price changes as the cause of the declining prices.

“The decline in gas prices is primarily being driven by a decrease in crude oil cost and slow demand,” Waiters said. “The cost for oil accounts for 55% of what we pay at the pump, therefore, higher or lower oil costs will dictate the price we pay for gas going forward.”

The national average is down to $3.36 per gallon, which is down five cents from last week.

The cheapest average prices in Georgia as of Monday are in Schley county in Southwest Georgia at $2.92 per gallon while the most expensive are in Taliaferro County in Middle Georgia at $3.51 per gallon on average.
