Single-vehicle wreck leads to extended closure of Poplar Springs Road

By AccessWDUN Staff

The Georgia State Patrol said Wednesday morning that a single-vehicle wreck Tuesday evening led to extended closures on Poplar Springs Road in Hall County.

The roadway was closed Tuesday evening due to downed power and utility lines near Gilleland Circle and remained closed as of late Wednesday morning. Commuters were asked to use alternate routes for Wednesday morning and to mind the barricades while using caution in the area.

About 100 Georgia Power customers in the nearby area were reporting power outages Wednesday morning.

In an update, the state patrol said the wreck happened at about 7:50 p.m. Tuesday. Deborah Ann Adams, 66, of Gainesville, was driving a Lexus sedan west on Poplar Springs Road when the car went off the north side of the road and hit a ditch. The sedan then overturned and hit a utility pole and fence.

The driver only suffered minor injuries but declined medical attention. She was cited for driving too fast for the conditions and failure to maintain lane.
