By Christian Ashliman Anchor/Reporter

A month-long investigation into drug activity in the Bugscuffle area led to a traffic stop and arrest of a Hiawassee man on Sunday.

Units with the Towns County Sheriff’s Office reportedly made the traffic stop on Sunday at the intersection of Main Street and Bell Creek Road in Hiawassee, according to officials with the department.

Probable cause was developed by responding officers and a subsequent search of the vehicle revealed methamphetamine and a handgun.

The occupant of the vehicle, William David Ledford, 48, of Hiawassee, was arrested and charged with felony possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, methamphetamine possession, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and possession and use of drug-related objects.

Concentrated patrols by police in the Bugscuffle area helped identify the drug activity, authorities said Tuesday.
