‘My helicopter’: Demorest boy reunited with flight medic during Habersham festival

Habersham County E-911’s Children’s Fun Fest brought a special reunion last week for two members of the community.

Earlier this year in March, two-year-old Atticus Khadayat nearly died from an illness he battled at the hospital in Gainesville. After reaching near-critical levels, the young boy was flown via emergency helicopter to a pediatric intensive care unit in Macon, according to spokesman Rob Moore.

Now, roughly seven months on, Atticus is reportedly “doing well and having fun,” his mother, Susan Khadayat said.

“It was special to bring him back healthy and let him meet the man that took care of him on his worst day,” Khadayat said.

Certified Flight Paramedic Kevin Queen of Air Life Georgia 2, a medical helicopter based out of the Habersham County Airport, was the one who accompanied Atticus on his trip to Macon.

While the young boy received good care at both hospitals, the Air Life 2 transport is what he remembers the most.

“He talks about the helicopter all the time now,” Khadayat said. “He calls it ‘my helicopter’.”

During the Habersham County Children’s Fun Fest, Atticus dressed as a Demorest firefighter and was excited to be reunited with Queen.
