By Christian Ashliman Anchor/Reporter

A Dawsonville native wanted out of Cherokee County was observed walking along a county roadway Friday, fleeing into the woods upon contact with Dawson County Police.

Deputies are searching for Cody Ridings, 31, of Dawsonville, who was last seen walking along Elliot Family Parkway near the intersection of Ga. 53, according to Sergeant Matthew Blackstock with the department.

A patrolling deputy ran the suspect through GCIC and discovered Ridings had active warrants for burglary out of Cherokee County.

Ridings was originally wearing a camouflage shirt and white pants. Once deputies attempted to make contact with him, he reportedly took his shirt off and ran into the woods.

A search of the area was conducted using a UAV and K-9 units, alongside police officers, but no further contact has been made with Riding as of the last report.

Riding is said to frequent the area of downtown Dawsonville. Authorities are requesting anyone who sees the man to not make contact with him, and instead call 911.
