Habersham County taking bids on downtown Clarkesville building

By Christian Ashliman Anchor/Reporter

Habersham County has opened bids for the sale of a building located on Washington Street in downtown Clarkesville.

The building in question was formerly used as the Elections Office, and most recently housed the Soque River Watershed Association office, according to Habersham County spokesman Rob Moore.

Located at 1387 Washington Street in Clarkesville, the county will host a walk-through of the building on Oct. 17 from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.

“The building is no longer needed by county government and the sale will place it back on the tax digest,” Moore said Tuesday.

Bids on the building will be accepted until Oct. 25 at 3 p.m., with the awarding of the bid set to be made to “the highest responsive and responsible bidder.”

Those interested in bidding can find documents available for download on the Habersham County website, listed under “Bid Opportunities.”

The county has said it reserves the right to reject any and all bids if a fair market price is not received.

More information regarding the bidding process and the building can be obtained by contacting Habersham County Chief Financial Officer Tim Sims at (706) 839-0202.
