Driver flees scene after single-vehicle rollover wreck on Mount Vernon Road

By Christian Ashliman Anchor/Reporter

The driver of a Ford truck fled the scene Friday night after his failure to negotiate a curve led to a rollover, shutting down Mount Vernon Road for approximately two hours.

Troopers with the Georgia State Patrol responded to the scene at 11:15 p.m. Friday night on Mount Vernon Road near Shirley Road in Hall County. An investigation has revealed that a white 2011 Ford F-350 was traveling southbound when the driver failed to negotiate a curve, according to authorities.

The Ford traveled off the west edge of the roadway, began rotating and then overturned. The truck was carrying a large amount of landscaping mulch that was dumped onto the road.

The GSP shut down Mount Vernon Road for two hours in order to clean up the accident, officials said Sunday.

Raul Gutierrez, of Gainesville, was the registered owner and alleged driver of the truck. Following the rollover, he reportedly fled the scene on foot.

He was identified by items in his wallet left behind at the scene, along with statements from his son indicating that “his father was out in the truck,” the GSP said. He was further identified via witness descriptions.

Gutierrez currently has pending charges for failure to maintain lane, leaving the scene of the accident and driving on an expired license.
