Flowery Branch enters new contract for water tower maintenance

By Christian Ashliman Anchor/Reporter

The Flowery Branch City Council Thursday voted on the cancellation of two existing water tower maintenance contracts in tandem with the start of a new contract with a different company.

"We want to be your subject matter expert when it comes to water tanks and the maintenance of those tanks and assets," a representative with American Tank Maintenance said. "My team has over 200 years of experience in the tank maintenance industry. We build business relationships based on trust and integrity. We stand behind what we say and what we do. We're focused on the southeast region only."

Thursday's vote concluded the existing contracts with Utility Services Company, Inc. in favor of establishing new contracts with American Tank Maintenance.

The vote was unanimous by Flowery Branch council members.

The Flowery Branch City Council Thursday will vote on the cancellation of an existing water tower maintenance contract in tandem with the start of a new contract with a different company.

The City of Flowery Branch is currently engaged in two contracts with Utility Services Company, Inc. which provides water tank maintenance for two separate tanks in the city, according to city documents.

Council members will vote Thursday on whether or not to cancel those two existing contracts in favor of a new company, due to cited issues regarding a lack of provided maintenance.

“The tanks are not being maintained adequately,” the Flowery Branch Executive Summary reads. “The contract states that the company, or Utility Service Company, Inc., will clean and repaint the interior and/or exterior of the tank at such time as complete repainting is needed.”

Tank maintenance companies reportedly sell their services with the condition that tanks will “always look new or like they have been recently painted,” the summary reads.

The contracts with Utility Service Company, Inc. were started in 1999 and are subject to cancellation by the city if their intent to cancel is received by the company 90 days prior to the contract anniversary date.

Both contracts were signed on July 27, 1999, and the most recent cost estimates run the city approximately $22,029.12 per year for both tanks.

Should the contracts be canceled, council members plan to execute a new contract with American Tank Maintenance for three water tanks within Flowery Branch city limits.

The city will briefly have three operational water tanks once a new 250,000-gallon elevated tank comes online before the older 60,000-gallon tank is torn down. All three tanks need to be on the new contract, according to city documents.

The contract will cover the painting of the new water tank now and in the future, internally every 12 years and externally every nine years.

The Flowery Branch City Council will meet Thursday evening at 6 p.m. to vote on the contracts.
