A suspect has been arrested in connection with a fatal hit-and-run that occurred Tuesday evening in Forsyth County.

According to a press release from the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office, Agapito Romo Vasquez, 48, of Alpharetta is facing charges in the death of Joaquin Vega, 70, also of Alpharetta.

Vega was killed in the incident at about 8:30 p.m. Tuesday in the area of Atlanta Highway and Tidwell Road.

The sheriff's office said deputies located a vehicle Wednesday evening matching the description of the vehicle that hit Vega. The vehicle was located in front of a lot in the 6400 block of Atlanta Highway.

The vehicle had damage consistent with a hit-and-run. It was fitted with a new windshield and had evidence that the driver's side had been cleaned. Investigators later found the broken headlight assembly. They were also able to identify the windshield replacement company, which led them to the broken, bloody windshield.

Vazquez was charged with homicide by vehicle in the first degree, felony hit and run and driving without a license. Additional charges are pending.
