Body of missing Brookhaven woman found in Dacula, boyfriend charged with murder

The body of a missing Brookhaven woman was located Sunday afternoon in Dacula, and police have now added three new murder-related charges against her boyfriend.

After reviewing the facts and circumstances of the case this week, Gwinnett Homicide Detectives have reportedly secured three new arrest warrants for Brandon Wineinger, 43.

Wineinger has been charged with malice murder, felony murder and aggravated assault, authorities said Friday.

He currently resides in the Dekalb County Jail.

The body of a missing Brookhaven woman was located Sunday afternoon in Dacula, and police have identified her boyfriend as a suspect in her disappearance.

Brookhaven Police said in a press release Aimee Lafakis, 48, was first reported missing by her family on Friday. She was last seen at about 2 a.m. that morning. 

The body of Lafakis was then located Sunday afternoon in Gwinnett County by the Gwinnett County Police Department near Turkey Crossing and Harbins Circle in Dacula.

Lafakis' boyfriend, Brandon Wineinger, 43, was interviewed in the wake of her disappearance, and Brookhaven Police later determined he made several false statements throughout the interview process. Wineinger was arrested and charged with felony giving false statements and felony tampering with evidence. He was then booked at the DeKalb County Jail.

Following the recovery of Lafakis' body in Wineinger, additional warrants were taken out in Brookhaven on the following charges:

  • Kidnapping (Felony)
  • Burglary (Felony)
  • Tampering with evidence (Felony)
  • Giving false statements (Felony)

Gwinnett County Police also interviewed Wineinger since Lafakis' body was recovered in their jurisdiction. As a result, Gwinnett County Police also charged Wineinger with concealing the death of another.

The cause of death is still under investigation. Gwinnett County Police said additional charges could be forthcoming.
