The Gwinnett County Police Department said Tuesday morning it was on the scene of a SWAT call in Sugar Hill.

Gwinnett County Police Sgt. Jennifer Richter said the agency was on the scene of the call as of about 9:30 on Sycamore Summit NE.

The agency was assisting the Brookhaven Police Department with the service of felony warrants at a home on the road. The man they were trying to serve the warrants to went back inside the home and refused to come out after police made contact.

Gwinnett County Police then received information that the man could possibly be armed, at which time they requested SWAT.

The public is asked to avoid the area.

Residents in nearby homes are advised to shelter in place. Richter said they were making arrangements for residents in the area to get in and out of their homes as needed.
