Dawson Co. house fire possibly caused by outdoor burning

By Lauren Hunter Multimedia Journalist

Dawson County fire personnel believe a house fire Sunday evening at a home on Harbour Ridge Drive was caused by outdoor burning.

According to a press statement from Dawson County Emergency Services, crews arrived at the home just after 6 p.m, and spotted heavy smoke and flames showing from the two-story home.

Initial reports stated residents were trapped inside, but crews were able to confirm all had made it outside on their own.

The fire was brought under control within an hour. Two residents were taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center for possible smoke inhalation. Their conditions are unknown.

Earlier Sunday, crews responded to a large brush fire off Hugh Stowers Road. They found a 5,000-square-foot barn fully involved in flames, as well as several acres of woods on fire.

The fire was brought under control within 30 minutes. No one was injured.

While a cause for both fires is still under investigation, neither are believed to be suspicious in nature. Dawson County Emergency Services would like to remind everyone not to burn on "Red Flag" days, and to check local weather conditions before burning.
