Girls basketball playoffs: Lakeview upsets Prince Ave; Jefferson, Lumpkin roll to 2nd round; East Jackson falls

ATHENS, Ga. — Joelle Snyder scored 20 points, and Dynesty Putman had 16 to lead Lakeview Academy in the 48-44 upset win over Prince Avenue in the first round of the Class A-Private tournament on the road Wednesday.

The Lady Lions were in control from the opening tip, taking a 16-7 lead after the first and a 23-15 advantage at the half.

In the third quarter, Prince Avenue closed the gap, 33-31, but the Lady Lions were able to hold on in a back-and-forth final quarter to advance to the second round of the state playoffs.

Ashlyn Henderson tossed in 11 points and grabbed six rebounds for Lakeview. 

The Lady Lions will travel to Landmark Christian either Friday or Saturday. Time and day to be determined.


JEFFERSON 57,
MAYS 35

Natalia Bolden poured in 22 points to lead the Lady Dragons (24-3, Region 8-4A No. 1 seed) past Mays (10-16, Region 6-4A No. 4 seed) at The Arena on Wednesday. 

Jyesha Butts added 10 points in the win. 

The Lady Dragons will play host to Troup County this weekend. Time and date to be announced. 


LUMPKIN COUNTY 84,
REDAN 51

The Lady Indians fab four did what they're used to doing -- scoring. 

Averie Jones led the top-ranked and No. 1 seeded Lady Indians with 28 points. Lexi Pierce had 23, Mary Mullinax added 18, and Kate Jackson chipped in 13. 

The game was never in question as Lumpkin County led 41-26 at the half and 61-36 with 1:22 to go in the third quarter. 

Lumpkin County (26-1, Region 7-3A No. 1 seed) will play host to Tattnall County on Saturday. Game time to be announced. 

RINGGOLD 45,
EAST JACKSON 43

The Lady Eagles' season came to an end with the loss to Ringgold in the first round of the Class 3A tournament at home on Wednesday. 

East Jackson finishes the season 23-3.
