City of Gainesville introducing ‘Holly Jolly Trolley’ light tour this holiday season

By Lauren Hunter Multimedia Journalist

Get to ready to sing “fa la la” and decorate your home’s halls to participate in Gainesville’s first Holly Jolly Trolley light tour!

Residents and businesses within the Gainesville city limits can apply now to have their home, store, street, or complex included on the route. According to a press release from the City of Gainesville, the Gainesville Trolleys will take passengers on a whimsical ride through the city from November 27 until December 31.

The trolley route will include a stop at Gainesville Parks & Recreation's Wilshire Wonderland of Lights. For the second year in a row, Gainesville’s Wilshire Trails Park will be decorated with holiday lights for residents to stroll through and enjoy.

Passengers will be able to get on and off the trolleys at multiple places throughout the city.

Some rules apply for a home or business to be included on the Holly Jolly Trolly route. Not all applications will be accepted. Submissions must be within the Gainesville city limits, and all homes must be decorated in lights by November 27.

Multiple houses in one area or neighborhood are given preference, so applicants are encouraged to ask their neighbors about participating. The application must be submitted by November 13.

The application link is here. The Holly Jolly Trolley is made possible through a collaboration between Gainesville Parks and Recreation, Gainesville Tourism, and Hall Area Transit.
