Riley named Hall County School District’s teacher of the year

Heather Riley, a teacher at Mount Vernon Elementary School, has been named the Hall County School District’s FY 2022 District Teacher of the Year.

“Mrs. Riley’s passion for her students and school community is as strong as I have seen in a school leader,” Mount Vernon Elementary Principal Jennifer Westbrook said in a release. “Heather has many strengths as a teacher and a teacher leader. She pours her heart and soul into her students, school and community on a daily basis.”

Riley has taught in the Hall County School District for 18 years, the last four of them at Mount Vernon, where she began the STEM program in 2017. Prior to teaching at Mount Vernon, Riley taught at Martin Technology Academy of Math and Science.

“Heather Riley represents so much of what is good in education today—and in the Hall County School District,” HCSD Superintendent Will Schofield said in the release. “She exemplifies excellence in the classroom and beyond. We are honored to have her on the team and we celebrate her commitment to students and to learning.”
