G.R. Smith and Rusty Schlenk scored victories over the weekend in Southern All Stars Dirt Racing Series action at Southern Raceway in Milton, Florida.
Smith was the winner on Friday night, while Schlenk won on Saturday at the 3/8-mile dirt oval.
On Friday night, Joseph Joiner jumped to the early lead, with Smith in pursuit. As the race reached the halfway point, Brandon Carpenter hit the outside wall on the front stretch, and was then collected by Ryan Crane and ended up on his roof. No one was injured in the incident.
Back under green, Joiner and Smith battled for the top spot. Smith kept working the top side and took the lead. He went on to score the victory with Joiner having to settle for second.
Billy Franklin finished in third, with Dean Carpenter in fourth and Payton Freeman in fifth.
On Saturday, Schlenk took the lead on the opening lap of the 50-lap feature. Smith closed on the leader in lapped traffic. Even with the aid of a late race caution, Smith couldn’t take the point as Schlenk went on to score the victory.
Joiner finished in third, with Christian Hanger in fourth and Freeman in fifth.
