One injured in White County house fire

By Dean Dyer WRWH Radio
One person was injured in a house fire Thursday afternoon at 4092 Helen Highway north of Cleveland.

Firefighters were alerted to the fire at 4:30 p.m., according to White County Public Safety Director David Murphy. He said when crews arrived on the scene, the house was about 50% involved in flames.

A man who lived at the house was able to escape the fire on his own, but he was taken by ambulance to Northeast Georgia Medical Center with unspecified injuries.

Fire units begin a defensive attack while waiting on more personnel to arrive and safely make an interior attack on the residence, Murphy said. Other fire units were already busy on a woods fire off  Duncan Bridge Road. White County Stations 2 and 3 along with mutual aid from both Cleveland and Helen personnel responded. Fire units remained on the scene for extensive overhaul operations for approximately five-and-a-half hours.

"This was the third fire within a week at this location," Murphy said. As a  result, the White County Sheriff's Office has been asked to investigate.
