Veteran CARS Tour driver Justin Johnson from Roxboro, North Carolina scored his first career CARS Racing Tour Late Model Stock Car win over Layne Riggs on a last lap pass at Dillon Motor Speedway in South Carolina to score his first career series victory.
Riggs, who dominated the race in the lead position, wasn’t aware it was the last lap and took a small bump from Johnson before finishing in second.
Rookie of the Year contender Sam Butler finished third with defending series champion Jared Fryar in fourth and NASCAR Truck Series veteran Timothy Peters, who flew in from Las Vegas, in fifth.
Riggs took command of the race from pole sitter Peters early on to dominate the majority of the race before the one and only yellow flag on lap 92 for Craig Moore’s flat tire set up the sprint to the finish.
Johnson took the lead briefly on lap 106 before Riggs took back command of the top spot right away, all while allowing rookie Butler and Fryar close the gap.
Approaching lap traffic, Riggs did his best to maneuver his way through slower cars, but it was the veteran Johnson who was finally able make the pass out of turn four. From there, he went on to score his first series victory in his 30th start.
Sam Yarbrough, Mike Looney, Bobby McCarty, Deac McCaskill and Mason Diaz rounded out the top 10.
