Body of missing boater from Cumming recovered

By Lauren Hunter Multimedia Journalist

The body of a boater who went missing at Mary Alice Park on Lake Lanier was recovered Sunday morning.

Mark McKinnon with the Georgia Department of Natural Resources said the body of James Dunn Lindsey, 46, of Cumming was found just after 11 a.m. McKinnon said Dunn's body was found not far from where he went missing.

Dunn is believed to have slipped into the water while working on his boat Thursday and never resurfaced. Division Chief Jason Shivers with the Forsyth County Fire Department previously said personnel was dispatched to the scene around 5:30 p.m. Thursday but suspended the search because of darkness.

McKinnon said personnel with the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, Forsyth County Fire and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers had been searching for Dunn every day since. He said game wardens used sector scan sonar to find Dunn and recovered his body using the Remote Operated Vehicle.

"We're glad that we're able to give this family some closure, it's a sad situation right here at the holidays and our heart goes out to them," said McKinnon.

Dunn's body has been sent to the Forsyth County Coroner to determine an official cause of death.
