Girls basketball: Chestatee shoots past North Hall; Gainesville, Flowery Branch and Lakeview all win

Chestatee opened the season with a big 70-47 win over arch-rival North Hall at the Lynn Cottrell Center on Tuesday.

Riley Black and Payton Cable combined for 22 first-half points to help the Lady War Eagles to a 34-16 halftime lead. Chestatee's stifling defense held the Lady Trojans to just six points in the opening period.

Although North Hall (0-1) played the Lady War Eagles (1-0) much closer, 26-24, in the second half, the Chestatee's first-half performance was too much to overcome.

Black, a sophomore, led Chestatee with 16 points, and Cable, a freshman, poured in 14 points. Freshman Caroline Bull hit for 12 points, and freshman Addison Boyd had 12 points. 

Seniors Riley Allison and Bowen Corley led the defensive effort with 3 steals apiece.

Athena Vachtsevanos led the Lady Trojans with 11 points. 

Chestatee will play on Thursday at Johnson. North Hall is off until Nov. 30 when they play host to Union County. 


FLOWERY BRANCH 66,   
WEST HALL 4 

The Lady Falcons (2-0) held West Hall (0-1) to just two points in the first half en route to a 32-2 lead at the half and the win on Tuesday in Oakwood.

Bella Brick scored 13 points to lead Flowery Branch, while Alana Veiga netted 12. Bella Brick 13.

The Lady Falcons outpaced West Hall, 34-2, in the second half.


GAINESVILLE 59,
DUNWOODY 34 

Keidra Young scored 15 points and KeKe Jones had 12 to lead the Lady Red Elephants in the season-opening win over Dunwoody on the road Tuesday.

Gainesville (1-0) led 26-20 at the half and extended the lead, 44-34, by the end of the third quarter.

Jayda Johnson added nine for Big Red, which returns to action Friday at Stone Mountain.


LAKEVIEW ACADEMY 64,
PROVIDENCE CHRISTIAN 41

Joelle Snyder scored 27 points to lead Lakeview (1-0) to the win over Providence Christian Academy in Lilburn on Tuesday.

The senior guard also dished out five assists and snagged five steals in the win. Sophomore  Ashlyn Henderson turned in a double-double performance with 17 points and 12 rebounds, and freshman Dynesty Putman chipped 14 points and seven boards. 

The Lady Lions play again Monday in the Piedmont Classic in Demorest against Rabun County. Game time is 4 p.m.
