Lawrenceville man arrested for shooting death of wife

A Lawrenceville man turned himself for the early morning shooting death of his wife.

According to Gwinnett County Police, Corey Dowdell, 45, of Lawrenceville, called dispatch just before 11 a.m. and said he wanted to turn himself in. 

Dowdell is allegedly responsible for shooting and killing an unidentified female early this morning at a home in the 2000 block of Gloster Mill Drive.

Officers responded to a person shot call in the area just after 4:30 a.m., according to a press statement. Officers found the dead woman inside of the home.

Dowdell fled on foot after shooting the woman. He was arrested and charged with felony murder, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

The victim's name is being withheld until next of kin can be notified. Investigators believe the killing was domestic-related but are exploring all motives.
