A suspect was arrested Wednesday for charges related to a hit-and-run in Athens on Oct. 9 which resulted in the death of a University of Georgia student.

According to a social media post from the Athens-Clarke County Police Department, Donterris Gresham, 29, of Athens, turned himself in at the Clarke County Jail.

Gresham was allegedly driving the Honda Accord that struck Ariana Zarse, 20.

Zarse and a friend were crossing Broad Street near the UGA campus around 12:15 a.m. when Zarse was struck by the Honda.

Zarse was taken to a hospital, where she later died from her injuries.

Gresham is charged with first-degree homicide by vehicle, hit and run involving serious injury or death, failure to obey traffic control device, too fast for conditions and driving while unlicensed. He was being held in the Clarke County Jail without bond as of Thursday afternoon.

According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Zarse was from Austin, Texas, and a member of the Pi Beta Pi sorority. The AJC states Zarse recently competed in a charity boxing event that had been held by UGA's Greek organizations.
