Holiday traffic northbound on Interstate 85 was stopped for an hour New Year’s Eve while Banks County emergency personnel extinguished a truck fire.
At 12:33 a.m. Thursday, units from Banks County Fire/EMS responded to I-85 at mile marker 151 north of Banks Crossing to a reported vehicle fire, said Banks County Fire/EMS Chief Steve Nichols.
“Upon arrival, they found a tractor-trailer with 50% involvement to the tractor and the trailer,” Nichols said. “The fire started around the rear brake area of the tractor-trailer. The fire was quickly extinguished with heavy damage to the unit.”
Nichols said the hazardous condition closed the interstate for about an hour.
No injuries were reported.
