It didn’t come easy, but at the end of the night, Brad Amerson parked his SHARP Mini Late Model mount in victory lane at Georgia’s Winder-Barrow Speedway on Saturday.
The Millen, Georgia native came out on top of a back-and-forth, pushing and shoving battle with Mike Wolfe, Jr. over the closing laps of the action packed feature to score the victory at the ¼-mile clay raceway.
Wolfe, Jr. led most of the way in the feature for the 5/8-scale, 600CC motorcycle engine powered racers. Amerson challenged early, but dropped as far back as fourth at one point during the running of the race.
Amerson worked his way back towards the front, moving past Ryan Brown and Joey Schoen while the field raced through a series of caution flags.
Amerson would get his best shot at Wolfe, Jr. on the final restart of the night. Amerson moved alongside the leader on the outside of the first turn, and then used a crossover move off turn 2 to take the lead.
Wolfe, Jr. got back to Amerson’s back bumper, giving him a shot as they raced into turn one. He would move alongside Amerson in turn four, with the duo making contact in the turn. Amerson held the spot as the two raced off the corner.
Wolfe, Jr. again challenged, looking again to the inside in turn one. After racing down the backstretch, Wolfe, Jr. moved to the lead in turn three. Racing down into the first corner on the next lap, Amerson used a crossover move to challenge again for the lead. The two again make contact as they powered into turn three, with Amerson moving back to the point.
Wolfe, Jr. saw his challenge for the lead derailed when he was tagged from then inside by Tyler Keel, sending both cars sliding. Both would recover, but the contact allowed Amerson to move away from the pack.
Amerson would continue unchallenged to the checkered flag and the victory. Wolfe, Jr. had to settle for second, with Schoen in third, Keel in fourth and Kenny Dobbs in fifth.
Jody Sparks, Brown, Cody Taylor, Michael Green and Mitchell Taylor rounded out the top 10.
In other action, Ken Lampp scored the victory in the Limited Late Model feature, with Brandon Roberts in second, Dustin Cason in third, Josh Roberts in fourth and Bob Johnson in fifth.
Cade Cagle took the win in the 602 Hobby feature. Tyler Wood followed in second, with Rodney Peters in third, Chris Jones in fourth and Justin Roberts in fifth.
John Anderson was the winner in the Modified Street feature. Jordan Poole came home in second, followed by Aaron Criswell in third, Scott Little in fourth and Quik McCannon in fifth.
Shannon Duck topped the Stock V8 field to record the feature victory, with Derek Greeson in second.
Justin Taylor scored the win in the Stock 4A feature, with Brandon Cox second and Allen Cantrell third.
John Harrison took the victory in the Stock 4B feature, with Britani Page, Bobby Croya, Robert Booth and Stephen Bradshaw rounding out the top five.
