Freeman edges Collins for WBS Limited Late Model win

Payton Freeman held up under the pressure of a strong challenge from Kenny Collins, and went on to score the Limited Late Model feature win on Saturday night at Georgia’s Winder-Barrow Speedway.

The Commerce, Georgia racer started on the pole for the feature at the ¼-mile clay oval, with Ken Lampp to his outside. The two battled side-by-side over the first two laps, with Lampp edging out the lead on the outside on each lap.

As the two exited turn two on the third lap, Freeman got a strong run on the inside and finally cleared Lampp on the backstretch to take the lead. Lampp was able to keep pace with Freeman for a couple of laps before losing ground to the leader.

While Freeman moved away from the field, Lampp slipped back into the clutches of third place running Collins. After battling for about a lap, Collins made the pass for second on the high side of turn three.

Over the next several laps, Collins began working to reel in Freeman. As the race reached the closing laps, Collins caught the leader and began pressuring him on the outside. Freeman was able so slip away again, but Collins again reeled him in. Over the final laps, Freeman would feel a lot of pressure from Collins on the inside off each corner.

In the end, Freeman was able to put a few car lengths between himself and Collins, and went on to score the victory.

Collins had to settle for second, with Lampp in third, Will Harris in fourth and Drew Collins in fifth.

In other action, Nick Sellers took top honors in the 602 Hobby feature, with Chase Lampp and John Lewis rounding out the podium.

Ronnie Poole scored the win in the Modified Street feature, with Tyler Canup in second and Slade Daniel in third.
