An unidentified man died following an accident this afternoon on Thompson Bridge Road according to Gainesville Police Sergeant Kevin Holbrook.
According to Holbrook, officers with the Gainesville Police Department were called to the scene on Thompson Bridge Road northbound near Dunlap Landing just after 3 p.m.
Holbrook said an initial investigation determined that the victim stepped into the roadway and was then struck by a commercial vehicle heading northbound on Thompson Bridge Road. The man later died at the scene. According to Holbrook, it is currently unknown as to why the man stepped into the roadway.
Officers are currently making next of kin notification, and the incident is still under investigation, according to Holbrook.
