Brandon Overton and Chris Madden grabbed a pair of World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Model Series victories in the south east over the weekend.
Overton drove to the win on Friday night at Cherokee Speedway in Gaffney, South Carolina, while Madden took the victory at 411 Motor Speedway in Seymour, Tennessee on Saturday night.
On Friday night, Overton banked his second straight $10,000 title at Cherokee Speedway’s Mike Duvall Memorial.
It’s his 21st overall victory of the season and the 12th of his series career, putting him in a tie for 14th on the all-time wins list alongside Clint Smith, Shannon Babb, and Dale McDowell.
More importantly, the Evans, Georgia racer’s win at the 3/8th-mile dirt track extended his mark to a perfect five-for-five with the World of Outlaws since August. He’s only the fourth driver in the series’ 19-year history to go on such a winning streak
Overton’s win only came after some concerns when he slipped back to fourth on lap 23 of the 50-lap feature. He quickly rallied, however, and promptly drove by Chris Madden, Ross Bailes and Brandon Sheppard to take the lead on lap 34. From there, he’d go on to the victory.
“I’m just so grateful, man,” Overton said. “I’m grateful for this opportunity to drive top notch cars and I’m grateful for all the people supporting me and this team. I’m having a blast right now and everything is just coming together.”
Sheppard finished in second, with Madden in third, Kyle Strickler in fourth and Bailes in fifth.
On Saturday night, Chris Madden turned in a dominant performance en route to the win at 411 Motor Speedway.
In just his second start under the newly-labeled Chris Madden Racing, Madden recorded his 28th career series victory.
“2020 has been upside down for me, there’s no doubting that,” Madden said. “We haven’t quit though, we stuck it out, we battled hard. My family has stuck behind me through it all and they’ve kept pushing me.”
After slipping back to second on the start of the 50-lap feature, Madden moved to the top line and bypassed pole sitter Cade Dillard on lap six. Madden went on to score his second series win of the 2020 season. It’s the 28th career series victory for the Gray Court, South Carolina native.
Ricky Weiss, Brandon Sheppard, Cory Hedgecock and Ross Bailes rounded out the top five.
The World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Model Series will have two weeks off before resuming the 2020 campaign on Friday, October 23, at Indiana’s Kokomo Speedway. That’s followed on Saturday, October 24 at Missouri’s Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55.
