Pulliam wins Late Model 100 at South Boston Speedway

By Mike Smith

SOUTH BOSTON, Va. - Lee Pulliam got a good launch on the the final restart with 10 laps to go and pulled away to edge Peyton Sellers in Saturday night’s NASCAR Late Model 100 feature at Virginia’s South Boston Speedway.

Pulliam won the pole and led all 100 laps en route to his third win of the season.

Pulliam and Sellers restarted together on the front row for the last restart. While Pulliam got a good launch, Sellers lost third gear, opening the door for Pulliam to pull away over the closing laps and take the win.

Sellers finished 1.270-second behind Pulliam, with Jeb Burton finishing third in a team car to Sellers. Daniel Silvestri finished fourth, followed by Austin Thaxton in fifth.

Burton was Pulliam’s primary challenger for most of the race, with Sellers putting himself into contention for the win over the final 25 laps. The last of the race’s three caution periods came on lap 90 and appeared to set up a thriller of a finish.

The combination of Pulliam’s good launch on the final restart and Sellers losing third gear gave Pulliam the margin he needed to secure the win.

In other action, Danny Willis, Jr. sped past pole sitter Jacob Borst to take the lead on lap 24, and held on the rest of the way to win the Limited Sportsman Division feature.

J.D. Eversole followed Willis past Borst on lap 24 to take second place, and stayed there the rest of the way. Borst finished third, with Jason Myers fourth and Daniel Moss fifth.

Nathan Crews and Bruce Mayo split wins in twin 15-lap races for the Budweiser Pure Stock Division.

In the first feature, Jarrett Milam of finished in second, with Mayo in third, Jordan Pickrel in fourth and Scott Phillips in fifth. In the Second feature, Crews, Pickrel, Justin Dawson, and Phillips rounded out the top five.

Josh Dawson of Halifax, Virginia started on the front row and scored a flag-to-flag win in the Budweiser Hornets feature. Andrea Ruotolo Sarnataro finished in second, with Jared Dawson in third, Kevin Currin in fourth and Tyler Stanley in fifth.
