No charges will be filed after a fatal two-vehicle accident in Gainesville late Friday afternoon.

Tennessee resident Shirley Ellison, 83, died in the collision on Limestone Parkway, while the other driver, 28-year-old Gainesville resident Laura Webber, sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

Cpl. Major D. Patterson with the Georgia State Patrol said the accident happened around 4:30 p.m. near the intersection with Huntington Drive, a short distance from the entrance to the local Kroger shopping complex.

"A 2009 Nissan Rogue, driven by...Shirley Ellison of Puryear, Tennessee, was traveling north on Limestone Parkway," he said. "A 2014 Toyota Corolla, driven by...Laura Webber... was traveling south on Limestone Parkway.

Webber apparently then came to a stop in the left turn lane in preparation for a turn onto Huntington Drive.

"For unknown reasons, the Nissan Rogue failed to stay in its lane, crossed the median, and struck the Toyota Corolla head-on," Patterson explained.

Both drivers were taken from the scene to Northeast Georgia Medical Center, where Ellison succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead.

The State Patrol later determined that Ellison was the at-fault driver in the collision, and that Webber would not face any charges upon her release from the hospital.
