Gainesville Police Department detectives are searching for the man responsible for armed robbery at the Arby's Restaurant on Shallowford Rd. in Gainesville Monday night.

The crime happened after hours around 11:30 p.m., Chief Jay Parrish with the Gainesville Police Department stated in a press release Tuesday. Three employees were inside closing the popular food chain for the day when the suspect gained entry using a rock to shatter the glass door. The suspect revealed a firearm and ordered the employees to the ground.

The armed suspect demanded all the money and forced one employee at gunpoint to open the safe. The employee handed over the cash and the suspect fled the scene.

"He was a dark skin black male, probably around 40 or 50 years old," Chief Parrish said.

The suspect was described as a tall, slender man with short hair. He was last seen wearing a black shirt and dark colored jeans or pants, Parrish said.

"The employees immediately got up and called 9-1-1," Parrish said. "We flooded that area and actually located a subject matching that description around Browns Bridge Road. He ran on foot, we chased for a minute and lost him around Hudgins Road."

Chief Parrish stated there was no video surveillance, but detectives were able to collect evidence at the scene.

The police department is asking anyone with information to contact Detective Erin Escalante at 770-535-5276
